After
completion of his music studies at the Conservatory of Bruges (Belgium)
and the Academy of Schaerbeek (Brussels), Patrick Vankeirsbilck
obtained in 1990 the Government Medal in the disciplines of flute and
chamber music. |
He is also the holder of diplomas in harmony and counterpoint and composed a number of chamber music pieces that are deposed at the Belgian author and composer association (SABAM). Already as a student, Patrick Vankeirsbilck was very active in the field of Flemish folk dance music. In the early 90's, his intrest in live dance music shifted to tango music, first as a flute player and later as a bandoneon player. He participated in numerous masterclasses covering the practice of tango dance music with Carel Craayenhof, Juan José Mosalini, Marcelo Mercadante and above all Alfredo Marcucci. Patrick Vankeirsbilck entered Alfredo Marcucci's tango orchestra in 1993 and still tours with this ensemble throughout Europe. He recently took additional masterclasses with the bandoneon masters Julio Pane, Pablo Mainetti and Carlos Pazo in Buenos Aires. Patrick Vankeirsbilck participated with a trio in the 11th International Tangofestival in 1998 in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 2004, he was the solo-bandoneonist in a theater production called 'Borges et moi' (Brussels, 2004), a play in French about the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges that was even commented in the Argentinian press (La Nación). In that same year, he also performed as a bandoneon player on the Dutch national radio channel for classical music. Besides his role in the orchestra of Alfredo Marcucci, Patrick Vankeirsbilck is directing his own tango sexteto Tango 02 with which he is performing in Belgium and further frequently collaborates with other Argentinian and Uruguayan musicians in smaller ensembles: Urbango in Brussels and the Brusaires duo that operates between Buenos Aires and Brussels. With the Urbango trio, he performed in 2007 at the national radio "La Première" on RTBF. He is also involved in the Païres Project in Paris (F). |
